انا مين – Ana Min by Frida: EP Review
Frida’s Ana Min is a passionate melodic ensemble of contemporary oriental charm. Comprising of four tracks, each of which is laced with a rhythm that has a culturally distinct and emotive twist within the field of music. The EP’s incorporation of scales and instruments relevant to the delicate and heavenly sound emanating from the Middle East and the Arabic heritage, in general, is a terrific method to comprehend the depth of the music from that region.
While hearing the EP, the song “How the Water Goes” felt like a story being told through the eyes of the beholder. The exploration of the piano with the magical vocal section is quite sentimental and passionate. There’s something mystical about the way singers pertaining to the Arabic scale delve into their craft. Their accent and the overall pronunciation of the words feel very interesting to hear and with such an ancient and treasured language, it felt like an enriching experience.
If you’ve ever wanted to hear a track that made you feel like you were on a crew singing sea shanties and going on a discovery hunt then the musical piece “I’m Gonna Be a Sailor” will surely paint a delightful picture to bring that vivid image to mind. Encompassing light piano chords, and an accordion-Esque instrument the scene is completely transferred into this whimsical piece filled with adventure. Soon after percussions enter joined by a silky smooth lead portion with an oriental-themed string instrument I believe, it might even be the middle eastern technique of playing a Qanun, which Indian-classical musicians use.
