On Saturday night, during 88Rising’s “Head in the Clouds” set at Coachella, K-pop girl trio 2NE1 reunited. CL closed her solo performance, which included her singles “Hello Bitches” and “Spicy,” by singing “I Am the Best,” a 2011 2NE1 smash, alongside Sandara, Bom, and Minzy.
Each of the girls reached their entrance mark and began their expertly choreographed descent over the main stage, accompanied by the shrieks of delighted festival-goers.
In 2015, the now-disbanded quartet group performed together for the last time. The group’s final song together, “Goodbye,” was released shortly after in 2017.
Despite the fact that the members of 2NE1 only performed one song, the reunion was an emotional one for both the group and the fans, as the girls indicated by glancing into the cameras used to live broadcast the event to viewers all over the world at the end of their set. The foursome then exited the stage in a dramatic manner.
The girls were one of the first wave of popular K-Pop groups, having joined with YG Entertainment in 2009. They were the first K-Pop girl group to go on a globe tour in 2012.
The four members of the group had previously reassembled on anniversaries, but this is the first time they have performed together. After performances by other 88Rising artists including as Chinese superstar Jackson Wang, who kept the Coachella crowd cool with his almost effortless elegance, the girls hit the stage.
Fans were quick to react, live-tweeting their favorite moments and biggest surprises from the highly anticipated 88rising concert.
