Milan/London-based composer Richard Green brings us his single, โA Story,โ released April 24, 2024, as part of the second EP in his ambitious trilogy, A Journey. Known for blending neoclassical foundations with hints of Blues and Jazz, Green has collaborated with virtuoso pianist Irene Veneziano and the string quartet Archimia to craft a piece that is as emotionally rich as it is technically sophisticated. Recorded at the acclaimed Studio Elfo in Piacenza, Italy, โA Storyโ exemplifies the meticulous care and artistry Green invests in his work, while standing out for the narrative depth it conveys.
Positioned as the first track of the second EP, the song explores the universal rhythm of life, its highs, lows, loves, and struggles, effectively translating experience into an intricate musical journey.
Musically, โA Storyโ opens with playful piano keys that prattle along in a rhythmic, almost conversational pattern, weaving seamlessly with the lush, deep string arrangements that writhe and swell around them. The interplay between piano and strings is dynamic, constantly shifting and riffing in unexpected ways, creating a sense of unpredictability while maintaining a cohesive melodic flow. Classical elegance merges with subtle blues-jazz inflections, allowing the piece to breathe with both sophistication and warmth. Greenโs compositional choicesโswitching rhythms, alternating textures, and varied dynamicsโmake the track feel alive, like a dialogue among instruments, drawing listeners into its emotive narrative.
The artistry of Irene Veneziano shines throughout, her piano work delicate and commanding, while Archimiaโs strings sweep cinematically, which elevates the track beyond conventional EP fare.
โA Storyโ captures the essence of storytelling through music, inviting listeners to reflect on their own lives while immersed in Greenโs musical universe. With this release, Richard Green resonates emotionally once more as the visionary we know him to be.
