A&B Sides, Vol 1 Everything but the Everything ft. Adam Brookes: Review
Vocalist Adam Brookes has a funky baritone voice that seems to enlighten two different melodies perfectly from Everything but the Everything’s Singles titled “We want more” and “Open your mind”. The rest of the band members are as follows – on fast-paced drums Landon Cisneros, grooving out on the guitar is Jimmy Chen, on jazzy Synths is Adrew Gomez also plays Guitar, thumping on the sensational Bass Guitar is Izzy The Gent and the entire production work is done by Rex Shelverton.
Let’s start with We want more, where the drum work is absolute fire. The beat structure is slammin’ and adds a great layer on Adam’s vocals and the excellent guitar playthrough that tries to mimic the vocals too wow! The organ solo is just excellent and tasty stuff. Open your mind is a more energetic song and guitar-heavy on the rhythm section rather than the first number which is a bit more minimalist with more edge on the bass. Both the songs are quite remarkable and at first, I thought his vocal range of Adam would stay consistent with we want more, but turns out he’s got some impressive pipes.
While listening to both tracks I felt an interesting contrast but at the same time similarities that led me to believe in the band’s progressive nature. Once ‘we want more’ ended and ‘open your mind’ began, it felt like almost one song, but a marvelous transition indeed.
