Abhoth EP opens with “The Soil,” a track that starts your stay in the Pine Barrens with steady beats and shimmering sharp. The revving guitars heighten their distortion while gnarled vocals convey the anguish of alienation.
“The Depths of Waitomo” follows like the calm numbness after the initial onslaught of darkness. With its low and haunting synth melodies, this track evokes a quiet introspection while taking us deeper into despair.
“Discovered in the Early Morning” brings back the thumping beats and sharp guitar riffs, accompanied by tortured vocals crying out in agony. The sense of frustration and desperation is palpable, as the music builds to a crescendo of desertion.
“Ungracious Spawn” continues in a similar vein, with buzzing guitars and ominous energy permeating the intimidating atmosphere. The vocals, filled with anger and bitterness pulsing with unease and discomfort.
Abhoth EP concludes with “Belleplain Frost” which showcases the meditative acceptance of the unlikely gift of solitude in prolonged misery. This ambient track features swirling, ethereal music that floats with an eerie beauty.
