The electronic engineer of Crystal Castles, Alex Zelenka, is here to make you dance to Lana Del Rey’s ethereal aural aesthetic. He brings you the notorious fan-favorite, most heavenly, “Say Yes to Heaven,” with a hypnotic pulse that will get you dancing till dawn.
“Say Yes to Heaven(Alex Zelenka Remix)” replaced the dreamy electric guitar riff for the verses with industrial, techno, synthwave music, and Chicago House mUSIC influences engineered with heavy synths swirling in loops. A thick, pulsating synth swirls in loops, accompanied by glitzy vibrations and sharp, glassy gleams synchronizing with the jumpy beats.
Lana Del Rey’s vocals undergo a subtle shift in this remix. Her voice is less echoed and isolated without the reverb effect but her signature heavenly softness remains intact. Her voice’s soft, rich, and relaxed tone is just more solid and grounded, especially in the low-range singing of the verses.
The pre-chorus changes the dynamics a bit with the suspenseful synth exchanged for glitchy textures over her voice as Lana sings, “I’ve got my mind on you,” The engaging texture creates an intriguing contrast with the chorus, which comes with beats shooting down to bring Lana’s falsetto. Whereas the remix showcases the whole width of her falsetto with her sharp and crisp highs, isolating it from the atmospheric reverb. In the second verse, he brings a varied change to the music. We have a palpitating beat thumping over a low and heavy rev. He tweaks her pitch in the second chorus at a point just to zest up the flavors a bit.
The remix successfully marries Lana’s ethereal voice with the electronic elements, creating a dancey yet emotionally resonant experience.
Alex Zelenka is gearing up for the release of a new album featuring remastered and remixed old releases. Till then, listen to “Say Yes to Heaven(Alex Zelenka Remix)” and dance to your icon Lana Del Rey all night long.
