Ana Bajaras releases brand new rendition of Andean song ‘Ojos Bonitos’
Ojos Bonitos (Pretty Eyes), a superb rendition of the traditional Andean song “Ojos Azules” (Blue Eyes), is a very potent encounter with South American sounds.
It features excellent production by musician and producer Phil Spencer and demonstrates Ana’s emotive vocal power. A celebration of the lovely and moving sounds of the Andes and a musical exchange between South and North America. Ojos Bonitos creates something incredibly distinctive by fusing the traditional Andean music with the modern sounds of alternative rock and American folk rock.
The official music video for this song was created by Diego Barajas, brother of Ana, and features actors Miguel Barrutia and Jessie Mack Knight from Peru. It was shot in various locations throughout Central Texas.
“My interest in old songs and how they travel through space and time to become classics, from which we know little about their actual origin, is where this album began. One of the most popular Andean songs of all time is ‘Ojos Azules’ (Blue Eyes), which I have known since I was a young child in my Colombian hometown. The song ‘Ojos Bonitos’ (Pretty Eyes), which I thought was lovely and whose title made more sense given that the majority of people from our region have darker eyes, is an older and more traditional rendition of it from Peru. Therefore, we worked on our own rendition in an effort to capture the essence of what the song conveys while also initiating a sonic conversation between the north and south, which is audible in this rendition.” – Ana Barajas
