ANGELS WITH FANGS by GALLOWAYYYS: EP Review

The latest release from the Texas-based innovative and eclectic artist Blake Alexander’s solo project GALLOWAYYYS is the three-track EP ‘ANGELS WITH FANGS’. Recorded, produced, and engineered solely by the multi-talented musician, the EP features rap flares, contemporaneous production, and left-field lyrics about romance and inner turmoil.
Starting off with bright airy synths and reverb-soaked floaty vocals, ‘DYE IT RED’ sets the tone of the EP with its nostalgic sound and vintage production quality. This song has a prominent sub-bass in the background and upbeat instrumentation along with captivating melodies to balance it out. This fantastically groovy song takes a pleasantly surprising turn with the rap verse.
GALLOWAYYYS puts the EP on full throttle with the fast-paced song ‘PINK LEMONADE’. This song features 80s retro video game-like fast synth melodies and syncopated beats. Using glitch techniques, this song is an edgy take on the modern rap tone with a retro sound. Just two minutes long, but feels like a storm!
Saving the best for the last, ‘STICKY FINGERS’ is the heaviest song on the EP featuring a booming bassline, a gritty bass riff, and what sounds like a heavily distorted muffled guitar riff. In all its heaviness, Blake’s dreamy vocals give the song an ethereal edge. With vocals soaring high accompanied by the rumbling lows of the instrumentals, this song is sure to be an instant hit among the bassheads.
Despite the fact this EP was produced while traveling between states with minimal gears, the production quality cuts no corner. Loud and energetic, it is right up any basshead’s alley and a great addition to anyone’s gym playlist.
