If you grew up listening to the Weeknd, Drake, and other huge electro-pop artists, Yxng Kiddโs new EP, โArtist Vs. The World,โ will hit close to home with its addictive electronic beats and EDM drops. The EP represents three songs, with Yxng Kiddโs voice ramped up with reverb layered upon occasional spitting and beatboxing sounds. The music consists mainly of synth waves and muffled beats. You will also hear reverbed humming in his first track, Hell of A Night, which creates another dimension within the musical field.
The first track seems to be a dig at the content of the music industry, which tries to glamorize the material life. At the same time, he personalizes the track with a double narrative for taking more time to heal and breaking out of the matrix, which he recalls to be fake with faceless individuals.
If the first song felt groovy, itโs nothing close to the second one, โRejuvenated,โ which has a rejuvenating feel with its punchy lines and catchy chorus, where the music switches from the blurry synth lines to clearer waves and harder beats.
The last track from โArtist Vs. The World,โ EP, is a realization track, referring to Yxng Kiddโs pacing โThoughtsโ and then leading him to move too fast, only for him to realize he needs to slow right down. The first two tracks were about him chasing the top and being on the move, while the last one conveys the burnout that follows intense labor to success. He sings: โDay and Night, yeah/ This the second day that Iโve been geeking/ I can feel the shadows steady creeping/ Been up with no sleep this whole weekend.โ
