Avi Misra Evokes Nostalgia with Latest Album
The magnificent new album ‘Nostalgia,’ conceived in the brilliant mind of legendary Electronic Rock artist/producer Avi Misra, is a Synthwave and Darkpop masterpiece. ‘Nostalgia,’ Avi Misra’s fifth and perhaps greatest album, debuted on March 2 at Melbourne’s famed Toff In Town. The album was made available on streaming platforms on 11 March. Using traditional Indian songwriting approaches, melodic scales, and instruments, ‘Nostalgia’ is a superb synthesis of timbres that have seemingly never intersected in the mainstream music industry, which is what makes the album so special. The opening tune, ‘One Connection (Brahmaan)’, features the finest components of numerous Rock titans with an eclectic, Electronic, and Hindustani twist – a Radiohead-like chord sequence mixed with the instruments and melodies of the Magical Mystery Tour era. Avi’s astounding vocal performance and passionate poetry are reminiscent of the Beatles. The album’s title track, ‘Nostalgia,’ is a magnificent blend of overlapping synths, Dreampop, and Funk-esque guitar and bass, topped with Misra’s soulful vocals. ‘Nostalgia’ is another illustration of Misra’s unique ability to merge vintage rock sensibilities with electronica experiments. Misra’s latest album draws on a multitude of inspirations spanning a complex web of topics that make ‘Nostalgia’ so universally relatable; lockdown reflections of nostalgic reminiscence of his childhood and adolescence in New Delhi with memories of his birth city Tokyo, delicate rhythms of a first love in 90s Delhi, with a funky bassline and sumptuous synths of ‘Magic Carpet’, the angst in the anthemic ‘Mother’ and the otherworldly narrative ‘The Wind (Dad’s Story Of Souls),’ among other topics, ‘Nostalgia’ deftly addresses them. The album is a thick aural soundscape rich in the timbres of soulful harmonics, hummable melodies, and deep subtle layers brimming with personality and the genuine authenticity that Misra infuses into every piece of work in his extensive oeuvre. Recorded at Melbourne Electronic Sound Studio (M.E.S.S.) using legendary synths such as the Moog System 55, Yamaha CS 80, and Hammond Novachord, Avi Misra’s self-produced masterwork, ‘Nostalgia,’ is a future classic not to be missed.
Avi Misra is a multifaceted musical genius who has explored every available musical avenue and found unquestionable success. He is renowned for the vicarious transcendentalist lyricism that permeates every area of his music. His musical essence combines Electronic synth-wave, Hard Rock, and Indian undertones to create a sound that is uniquely his. More than a decade ago, when Avi Misra began his creative path as an acoustic balladeer in India’s underground music scene, he was renowned amongst local audiences for leading the fittingly called band Avi and The Uprising. His debut album ‘Eyes On The Radio’ was released to tremendous acclaim in 2014, and the band embarked on a three-city tour in partnership with MTV Indies and Blue Frog. Misra then made rapid inroads into the Australian music industry, gaining national radio airplay and stellar concerts at renowned East Coast venues ranging from The Tote to The Brisbane Powerhouse. His fifth studio album, Nostalgia, will be released with a highly anticipated concert on March 2 at Toff In Town in Melbourne and on March 11 at Depot48 in Delhi. With backing from synth-wave duo The Safety Word and alt-singer Camilla Rose Sullivan, The Toff concert was a wonderful evening and the perfect opportunity to introduce the world to ‘Nostalgia’, his magnum opus.
