Innovative musician Dan Devon releases a 13-track instrumental album “Bad Mittens.” With analog and digital technology infused, he embarks on a sonic journey through various electronic genres, including glitch, ambient, industrial, and IDM. With these stylings integrated, he creates a unique coalescing of the organic and synthetic fields.
The opening track, “Perry Mason,” introduces listeners to the album with a rumbling low rev that gradually transitions into recurring, thick, glitchy crashes. These heavy, glitchy sounds come accompanied by atypical sound effects. They create an engaging and unpredictable sonic landscape.
Moving to the second track, “Grunge,” the heaving crashes continue, but here, they take on a less emphatic tone. Over the glitchy foundation, a glitzy electric line buzzes, adding a layer of energy and complexity to the composition.
Another standout track, “Swimmmmmm,” pursues the heavy crashes, giving the sound effect itself a thrusting adventure. The track provides a change with more sensual sounds arousing our ears. Meanwhile, pulsating and glitzy elements swirl electrifyingly over the track.
As we dive deeper into the album, the ninth track, “Ancestor Dance,” stands out with its exotic and tribal percussive tapping. Melodic aspects emerge, creating a hauntingly intimidating and exotic atmosphere with jungle sound effects. It takes you into the heart of a jungle, opening up to a campfire, looked on by mysterious, menacing creatures.
You must be edging to get a touch of Dan Devon’s “Bad Mittens.” Find it on all major music platforms, especially Spotify, Apple Music, and Bandcamp.
