Los Angelesโbased singer-songwriter Julia Kate returns with โbe nice princess,โ which gives you the most relatable of emotions alongside catchy pop music. The song was inspired by a meme on Instagram that sparked a story about a friendship fraying at the edges in her head. Co-written with Nick Rosen, the single wrestles with the heartbreak of realizing someone you cared for no longer sees you, only for you to choose your voice. It follows her August 2025 single โangel,โ which leaned into grief and spiritual longing, showing just how wide her emotional palette is becoming. Here, she trades somber reflection for something wry, clear-eyed, and self-assured.
The song opens with bustling, hard-hitting percussion, almost like a heartbeat speeding up, only for soft, shimmering guitar chords to cushion the blow. Juliaโs delicate and high voice is edged with frustration after trying to stay composed. She sings with a dejected to soaring tone as she recalls doing all the emotional labor of calling, reaching out, softening herself, only to realize she was not being heard or seen and being pushed away. With the agonizing bewilderment of what did I do wrong? without ever collapsing into self-blame, she stays steady, graceful, even when the words sting.
The chorus lands like a clap to the face, โAre you too good for me now?โ The hook, โBe nice, princess,โ is probably her mimicking how her partner would cajole her to deny her frustrations. Itโs catchy, but itโs also a boundary line drawn clear as day. The production swells subtly, waves of bass and percussion mirroring the lyricsโ tidal emotional swings, from hurt and anger to letting go, and relishing in the reluctant peace that followed.
By the outro, when she sings โtake a bow, remove your crown,โ it sounds like release. The song glows brightest where it refuses to shrink. Check it out on Spotify.
