Vancouverโs legendary hip-hop polymath Moka Only returns with Beaming, a five-track EP, as inventive as it is effortlessly cool. Released worldwide via URBNET on September 25, 2025, the project finds Moka trading bars with his alter ego, Ron Contour, and longtime production collaborator Rad Brown. Moka reminds us why he is one of Canadaโs most prolific and unpredictable voices, as he paints moods, cracks jokes, and builds worlds, all while floating over Rad Brownโs space-age beats.
The opener, โLyrical Heart,โ sets the tone with a smooth, rumbling groove and rustling percussion that glimmers like sunlight on chrome. Moka is self-aware and swaggering โ relaxed but razor-sharp. His deep and calm voice slices through the shimmering backdrop with lines that teeter between wit and absurdity. โI am daily operationalโฆ national, mas*bational,โ he quips, blending humor and confidence into a kind of freestyle philosophy that ends with a shock value. Itโs classic Moka, clever, offbeat, and effortlessly rhythmic, as he makes us blush ever so randomly.
By the time โShuggieโ rolls in, the energy shifts into overdrive. Playful electronic textures pulse and pop against a booming beat, while Moka weaves nimble rhymes around Rad Brownโs kaleidoscopic production. His flow is quick but casual, flexing a natural cool that never feels forced. โMaster the fluster, quite unrenewable,โ he raps with sly precision, showcasing his knack for turning abstract wordplay into rhythm.
Closing with โInspector Skagit,โ featuring Docta Hook and Rex Texture, the EP dives headfirst into a vibrant, almost cartoonish soundscape. Hard-hitting drums and shimmering synths collide as a robotic voice chants the chorus, while alternating verses trade between raspy humor and silky smooth bars. Itโs chaotic in the best way. Itโs experimental, infectious, and alive.
Beaming is pure Moka magic. Listen to it on Spotify.
