Remember those Avril Lavigne tunes that dominated the early 2000s? Well, Jane N’ The Jungle channels that lightning with her own vivaciously powerful and agonizing voice in her latest single, “Beauty Queen.”
This track is pure, unadulterated hard-hitting jam. The singer’s voice is thick and full of emotion, hooking you in right from the first verse. The smoky voice with a touch more growl lays down the story in the first verse. It’s catchy as heck though relatable and painful, and you can practically feel yourself in her shoes, just by listening.
Then the chorus hits, and it’s like a shot of nostalgia straight to the veins. Jane’s voice soars over the fuzzy guitars, all while reminding the millennial adults whose dreams faded in the dust with love, and life. Jane shows her vulnerability as she sings over the thumping and grounding drums which soothe as they help us stay grounded to the floor to our roots. Meanwhile, the guitars create a sense of drive that ironically relaxes us.
The lyrics aim at the painful separations and frustrations of being caught between worlds and being left with broken memories. It’s relatable, raw, and delivered with a healthy dose of hurt.
The song ends with the singer’s voice fading out on a high falsetto, leaving you cut open. The music video for “Beauty Queen” is out now, and it shows Jane N’ The Jungle letting it all out with profundity.
If you’re looking for a song that’s equal parts fierce, painful and nostalgic, then “Beauty Queen” by Jane N’ The Jungle is your jam.
