Forrest Hill steps into new territory with his sixth solo album, Beyond The Veil, released July 11, 2025. The San Francisco Bay singer-songwriter, known for blending folk-rock with introspective lyricism, digs deeper this time into questions of identity, connection, and spiritual awakening. With producer J. Christopher Thomas once again at his side, Hill expands his sound into psychedelic hues reminiscent of The War on Drugs and The Shins, while never losing the warm folk heart that has anchored his career.
The record opens with โAnother Day,โ which drifts like sunlight through morning curtains. Airy acoustic strums, light piano touches, and steady drums give it a meditative glow, while Hillโs tender, uplifting vocals soar heart-warmingly and reassuringly. His lyrics about floating through thoughts like clouds convey the vulnerability and peace that set the reflective tone of the album. Later, โFlow Like A Riverโ ups the ante with heavy drums and sparkling strums that turn fuzzy and electric. Hill sings with passion, urging listeners not to let fear or poison seep into the heart. The song churns with urgency yet ends in surrender, carrying catharsis that makes it one of the standout moments.
Then thereโs โWill You, Wonโt You,โ a warm, shimmering invitation to embrace the present. The steady groove of guitars and drums underpins Hillโs soulful delivery as he poses a call-to-arms for love, joy, and seizing fleeting time. The comforting and pleading chorus comes like an arm around the shoulder that reminds us not to miss the dance of life.
All told, Beyond The Veil is a musical journey from alienation toward redemption, mixing folk sincerity with psychedelic flourishes that stretch Hillโs sound into bold new territory. Honest, melodic, and spiritually charged, the album signifies a compass pointing inward, urging us to let go and live fully in the now.
