Birdsong by John Hubcap: Review
John Hubcap released their newest single, “Birdsong,” after a few tough years. They are a Montreal-based band, and the composition came from one of their jamming sessions. It is a funky progressive rock song that grabbed my attention immediately. The song was inspired by the lead singer, who can easily wake up early in the morning and can hear the chirping of the bird, thus the hook line, “I’m not ready for the birds.”
The song starts with an overdriven guitar riff that sounded like the start of a classic rock track along with the floor drum beats. The song proceeds into the kickass guitar solo with its feels, vibrato, and pull-on and pull-off, making the track funkier along the way. When the groovy funky bass entered it gave a boost to the song, and the simple, yet technical, sounding drums make it complete. The vocal delivery is marvelous; it’s high, yet deep and goes so well with the composition. The guitar wah-wah solos, licks, and rhythm in between the compositions bring back memories of classic rock. In some sections, it had the feel of Dream Theatre, AC-DC, Nirvana, and some others. The chorus is very catchy and can easily get stuck in your head like it was already there in the first place.
It is a well-composed song that will grab the listeners’ attention and make them bound to the groove of it. It’s one of those songs that make you look up to the artists’ future releases.
