Dutch multi-instrumentalist Maartje Teussink has returned with Blank Page Mosaic, released on August 14, a sweeping 19-track album that dives deep into connection, reflection, and the beauty of simplicity. Known for her vast work in theater, film, and contemporary performance, Teussink shifts back into the singer-songwriter realm here, leaning on her semi-acoustic guitar and soulful voice to create an intimate and expansive soundscape.
With lush layers of electric guitar, piano, synthesizer, percussion, and harmonies, she stitches together a soundscape that comes like a personal diary turned into music, yet with the universality of something that could speak to anyone.
The record opens with the delicate โIntro,โ which has soft acoustic guitar plucked in gentle, glistening notes that feel like the calm before a story begins. From there, things flow into richer textures, but always with that grounding simplicity at the core. By track five, โWho Are You,โ the mood swells into rustling percussion and gleaming guitar chords providing the backdrop as Teussinkโs voice takes the spotlight. She croons with richness, wailing and bending notes with a soulful intensity that pulls you in, layered over harmonies that haunt in the best way possible.
Midway through, โOriah Mountain Dreamerโ slows the pulse, her voice dropping into low, meditative tones. Thereโs a heaviness here, not of weight but of depth, as she carefully stretches each word over immersive instrumentation, like sinking into a moment of still reflection. Near the close, โOutroโ returns to the stripped-down roots of the record, as warm, steady guitar plucks against a brooding rhythm, closing the mosaic with understated grace.
With Blank Page Mosaic, Teussink connects every piece, lyrical, instrumental, or in-between, to the whole story. Listen to it on Spotify.
