Blunt Blade by Blunt Blade: Album Review
Blunt Blade’s debut album establishes him as a pioneering writer and superb musician with Aaron Jonn Ruppert drawing inspiration from the incredible Tame Impala, Radiohead, Miles Davis, Talking Heads, Iron Maiden, Soundgarden, Tool, and Dream Theater.
Blunt Blade’s self-titled album can be characterized as semi-conceptual, emphasizing on compassion, empathy, optimism, and survival. “Tension” starts the album about accepting a worsening state. “The Build” examines disillusionment and the realization that some individuals are deceiving. “Coarse Reaction” is a desire for resolution while “Light Meadows” talks about how companionship may help overcome solitude. “Disarmed” shows the fatigue of long-term battle. “Outsider” feels true to its title and “The Sad Clown” shows the dangers of lacking modesty and self-examination. “Trapped” exposes how awful hopelessness is and offers a way out. “Destructive Intent” is about giving in to rage completely while “Struggling Skies” emphasizes persistence and calmness in the midst of hardship. And coming to the conclusion “The End” is a healing track that makes you look forward to new beginnings.
Raised in southern Minnesota, Aaron studied piano, guitar, and drums, and in his project, he incorporates dance, disco, electronic, indie, hard rock, and classical into progressive rock. Given his talent and background, it’s hardly unexpected that the talented musician gave the world a great album as Blunt Blade.
