Ninemansion declares his intent with his latest single, โBrand New Weapon.โ The Virginia-born artist, who first honed his craft as a producer before stepping into the booth in 2023, has built his sound out of emo-plugg, digicore, and modern rap, tying together digital shimmer and raw emotion in a way that speaks directly to Gen Zโs restless heart. Released on his 20th birthday, the track is a milestone and a launchpad because it leads up to his upcoming EP New Life and the ambitious debut album My Favorite Stranger, set to drop on his 21st birthday.
The song kicks off with deep, throbbing beats that anchor the atmosphere, while shimmering, cinematic music floats behind like fractured starlight. Besides, a glitzy, futuristic effect wraps around the instrumental. Over this soundscape, his voice cuts in, rapping with a fast, angsty cadence with a despondent, avoidant undertone, bringing the softness and vulnerability in each bar.
He repeats, โPretty girl, she says she want me / But I told her she canโt love me,โ as if he is trying to protect himself from any form of love, revealing the cracks beneath the hardened mask, showing how brittle it is. Then, flipping the metaphor, he names intimacy itself as a tool for survival: โYeah, my shawty, my favorite weapon.โ Itโs a striking image, turning romance into armor, highlighting how love can be both shield and shrapnel. By the time he confesses, โBaby girl, now I am tryna win her,โ the contradiction feels deliberate, desire tangled with distance, hope against heartbreak. Like he is trying to win against the trauma, trying to break out of it.
