Gary Dranow tells the story of an unlikely aspiring “Silver Screen Star” aiming to achieve the impossible in his evocative single, “China Rose.” Released on March 28, this song captures the struggles and aspirations of the protagonist, offering a glimpse into a world of many like her from restrictive and autocratic nations who dare to dream despite their harsh realities.
Composed, written, and guitars by Gary Dranow, with arrangements, bass, and guitars by Chris Zoupa and production, mixing, vocals, and drums by Jason Jones, “China Rose” opens with a captivating and catchy melody that immediately draws us in while shimmering like dreams. The high-octane pounding drums and uplifting ethos set the stage for a powerful narrative journey.
As Jason Jones sings passionately and anthemically out the dreams of the Chinese girl, Gary Dranow and The Manic Emotions bring the story to life with vivid imagery and descriptive lyrics.
The evocative line, “Forbidden scripts hide beneath her bed,” goes behind her seriousness about achieving her dreams. Dranow portrays credits rolling up in the castle high to depict the protagonist’s longing for a better life amidst the harsh realities of her existence as just a dream cultivated in her mind.
Having experienced the Vietnam War and spent time in Taipei City, Taiwan, and ROC, Gary Dranow empathetically shows this story isn’t solely fictional and that many are trapped from expressing their minds and hearts.
Listen to Gary Dranow’s “China Rose” to keep chasing your dreams and pursuing freedom despite all odds.
