After thirty years away from the studio, British singer-songwriter Glenn Greenhill returns with Cognito, a sprawling 82-minute, 12-track album released digitally on August 29, 2025, with a double vinyl edition scheduled for autumn 2026. Far from being a nostalgia trip, this record is a fearless fusion of progressive rock, Latin, classical, and pop, reimagining the rediscovered demos into contemporary yet timeless pieces. Drawing from a lifetime of experiences, stemming from grief, love, addiction, and renewal, Greenhill celebrates and reflects.
Right from the opener โAngel Lies,โ the tone is set with cinematic precision. Gentle piano and ticking percussion create an intimate atmosphere, while husky, melancholic vocals cut through like a whispered truth. As strings swell and a melodic guitar solo emerges, the track becomes an emotionally layered and devastating entry. Then thereโs โListen,โ where Greenhill lets loose with a Latin-inspired groove. A heartbeat-like pulse morphs into danceable rhythms filled with horns, shimmering percussion, and exotic strings, while the refrain, โListen to your heartโ comes to you like an irresistible calling bridging intellect and emotion.
The record closes with its namesake, โCognito,โ a progressive epic distilling the albumโs philosophy. Over shimmering melodies and thumping drums, Greenhill sings softly yet resolutely, โThis is me, cognito.โ Through self-recognition, the decades of searching culminates into a cinematic soundscape.
The music sounding like David Sylvian, Pink Floyd, and Bowie, its album Cognito rewards patience and repeated listening, as each song contributes to a larger arc of identity, mortality, and hope. A long time coming, yes โ but well worth the wait.
