An indie pop band sculpted from four members straight out of the coastal town of Torquay in Devon, Coral Palms is a befitting title for an aspiring band. With their latest release this March 10th, โPromises,โ they have vaguely demonstrated the sound of a slow summer by the hazy sea waves basking under the sun fronted by palm trees with a conforming but soothing electric guitar and a slower tempo right from the beginning.
The song depicts a fear of intimacy and vulnerability in someone stemming from trauma built up from past relationships. Before the character even gets to know this girl he likes, he concludes, โSheโs not worth getting caught up on.โ But hereโs the catchโ thatโs the introductory line and the chorus, and the singer has made that his defining one-liner.
The character has plenty of excuses up his sleeves, from her only breaking his heart in the end and him having stuff (or rather, emotional baggage) that heโs caught up on. Now letโs get to the main part, โthe promise of something newโ is not easy for him to see.
Coral Palms has poignantly depicted the avoidant attachment style in their indie-rock single, Promises,โ with groovy drums and zesty cymbals and a relaxing electric guitar sound. Already having garnered much critical acclaim from several big names like Rolling Stone and EARMILK, Coral Palms has already risen to the Indie Top 39. But this is just the beginning. โPromisesโ has already found its pre-release spin on BBC Introducing by Matt Tannock. Keep your eyes on Coral Palms for their upcoming album!
