Counting Fireworks by Plastic Barricades: Review
Plastic Barricades’ new single ‘Counting Fireworks’ is a victorious and joyful celebration of new beginnings. The song gives their listeners another sneak-peak into their next album, “We Stayed Indoors,” with their distinct indie rock style.
The song begins with a scintillating fleeting electronic melody along with an equally bright ambient guitar riff backed by punchy drums setting the tone for the rest of the song. The lead vocals are honest and impassioned, while the harmonies give the song depth and complexity. The hook is simply an earworm. The lyrics are upbeat and cheerful, reminding listeners that even in the midst of uncertainty and adversity, there is always a path forward. Turn the page again, step into the unknown.
The accompanying music video for ‘Counting Fireworks’ is dreamy, with a whimsical and surreal style reminiscent of Michel Gondry and David Lynch. The video was shot in one take, with no edits or cuts, and takes viewers on a strange journey around a flat filled with memories, dreams, and future visions.
Overall, “Counting Fireworks” is an excellent single that highlights Plastic Barricades’ distinct indie rock approach. It serves as a reminder that, even in the midst of adversity, there is always the chance for growth. The music video, with its DIY aesthetic and abstract imagery that perfectly compliments the song’s ideas, is also a must-see. I’ve been a fan since I came across their ‘Lucid in the Fall’. Can’t wait for the album!
