“Dear Alcohol” (MEGA REMIX) by Dax, featuring a diverse array of talented artists, is a poignant and deeply personal exploration of the complex relationship many people have with alcohol. Released on April 5, this collaborative effort brings together 12 artists, from Atlus to Official DJ Aaron, and each gets real about their struggles with alcohol.
The song opens with soft, melancholic piano keys and gentle guitar strumming, setting a contemplative tone throughout the track. Dax leads the charge with his heartfelt chorus lines, “I got wasted cause I didn’t wanna deal with myself tonight/My thought get drowned until I feel alright/I keep drinking til I’m someone I don’t recognize/I got wasted…”
Atlus sings about his inability to quit alcohol, while Kelsie Watts sings about looking for remedies and then asking for salvation from a higher power. Carly Pearl brings another level of high with her level of straightforward cool in her contemplative wisdom.
Skydxddy’s raw authenticity and agony in her voice and expressions were also loved by viewers, especially her line, “If someone screams and no one hears do they even have a voice?” Whereas Kayla Rae’s smooth vocals soothe the soul as she sings about driving people away with alcohol to avoid confronting bigger problems.
Rappers like Trippz Michaud, Phix and KC Makes Music bring the cure with the damage, the crippling loneliness and the numbness, and the steps taken to change from it.
Clocking in at over 10 minutes long, “Dear Alcohol” (MEGA REMIX) makes every second fly with tears and a backbeat going steady. Dax offers comfort, understanding, and hope to addicts, reminding them that they are not alone.
