If thereโs one thing Dichotomy makes loud and clear, itโs that contrast doesnโt have to mean conflict. Producers Tranzformer (repping San Diego) and Big O (holding it down in London) come together for their third joint beat tape, and this time, they are laying them side-by-side, to make the listeners feel the difference as much as the flow. Right off the bat, Big Oโs โGlass Butterflyโ catches ears with shimmering textures and a soulful rhythm that glides as smooth as glass. Meanwhile, Tranzformerโs โCali,โ featuring Streets, slows the pulse down with bluesy beats and thick, velvet vocals, passionate and heavy with longing.
On the other hand, โFed Up (Remix),โ featuring Fashawn, G-Rocka, and Tranzformer himself, this track pulls no punches. One voice delivers the hook with raw grit, another flows through verses with razor clarity, while the third collapses into the mic, weary and aching. The beat stays chill, a calm undercurrent beneath the storm. I particularly love how he dropped the absolute bars and courage with this line, โI get vexed when I think about the genocide and whatโs next.โ The way he was able to call out the administration and be on the right side of history in spite of all the powerful people that are being โprotectedโ is extremely courageous.
โCulmination,โ collabed between Tranzformer, Big O, P-Rawb, L.O.U. and Decksterror, it showcases what happens when minds meet midstream. Itโs layered and immersive, with chopped samples, Decksterrorโs scratches, and verses that spin sharp. And just like that, the album winds down with three instrumental tracks of the singles that feel like a final exhale after a heavyweight match.
Recorded oceans apart but fused in spirit, Dichotomy is a conversation in contrast, proving once again that two heads really are better than one. Check it out on Spotify.
