โThe blistering standout, โDignityโ by [SAMPLE_TEXT], this Anchorage-based trio (Reece Caldwell on vocals/guitar, Tyler Farrell on drums, and Jacob Marsh on bass) dive headfirst into experimental punk, grunge, noise, and raw, lo-fi honesty. This manic release valve is the sound of inner tension thrashing its way out into the cold air.
In โDignity,โ the drums are merciless. Tylerโs percussion basically pummels time into submission. Meanwhile, Reeceโs guitar is all piercing, fuzzy dissonance that chews through riffs like sandpaper on steel. His raspy and tight vocals are barely-hinged as they cry out desperately, like someone yelling through a throat full of ash. Jacobโs bass holds the line underneath it all, bringing a low-end urgency that rumbles like something just below the surface, threatening to erupt.
However, its brutal charm comes from its unapologetic anguish. Inspired in part by a grim psychological experiment on monkeys, and perhaps more deeply by Caldwellโs own emotional bleakness, the song illustrates the whole act of collapsing under pressure. With the monkeys as the analogy, we can see how cruel human beings can be, and how much we havenโt evolved as of yet, from the way monkeys act so much like ourselves.
Recorded mostly on analog gear in their own studio and mastered by local Anchorage legend James Glaves, โDignityโ thrives on crisp fuzz, structured chaos, and grating melody. [SAMPLE_TEXT] shows how artistry is so much more than being palatable to the ear. Refusal might just be the most dignified thing of all in this dystopia. Check it out on Spotify.
