Don’t Let It Rain by Linda Sussman: Review
The soul of fingerstyle guitar resonates deeply in Linda Sussman’s enchanting song “Don’t Let It Rain.” Her vocal pipes are a delicate mix of jazz/folk, and Linda’s guitar technique emanates a heavenly sound. Delightful to hear and almost healing in nature, the deep tone of the instrument plays a vital role in the hook of “Don’t Let It Rain.”
Linda’s tune initiates with slow blues notes and clean chords that speak volumes of the artist’s wizardry. Everything from the plucking to the phrasing of the fingerstyle guitar sections was beautifully crafted and it was a joy to hear from start to finish. Nearly a decade ago, an epic guitar player by the name of Andy McKee captivated my soul with his fingerstyle piece “Drifting.” Looking back at that moment, and hearing Linda Sussman’s “Don’t Let It Rain” gripped me with nostalgia, bravo!
This lovely composition is actually directed by a trio! A vibing fretless bass is introduced by Kevin Kelly, an ambient tone from Mike Nugent’s electric guitar, and finally Linda’s aforementioned presence at the helm. Aside from this, the songwriting mechanics were intriguing to grasp. The track has a smooth flow and in my opinion, it’s easy listening at its finest. The melody’s appeal arrives from the guitar’s strumming process. Even though that sounds like a basic observation, take it from me folks, there’s a satisfying cadence when all the chords ring at once.
