Rosetta West returns with a jolt of raw, mystic energy in their latest track โDora Lee (Gravity),โ a standout single from the upcoming Gravity Sessions. Known for their experimental blend of blues-rock, psychedelia, and world folk textures, the veteran Chicago band dives deep into the surreal with this release and emerges with something fiercely alive. The song arrives with the crunchy, hard-blues swagger only seasoned musicians can summon, recorded in one passionate take at the legendary Gravity Studios.
The track opens with grimy, electric guitar riffs to instantly ground you in the bandโs blues roots before the drums drop in alongside a powerful, rolling crash of cymbals and thudding beats that echo through the room. Vocalist and guitarist Joseph Demagore commands the mic with a thick, gravelly voice full of sly wit and storytelling charm. The voice makes you lean in, curious, as he spins a dramatic story. His delivery walks the line between raspy preacher and rock-and-roll poet, drawing us into the fever dream.
The video for โDora Lee (Gravity)โ is just as strange and gripping as the song. A surreal, almost mythological narrative unfolds around a possessed tank commander who becomes enamored with divine feminine forces, Ishtar, Hecate, Kali, and more, to demonstrate chaos, awe, and surrender to powers far beyond human control.
Rosetta West has always thrived on the margins, fiercely independent, often mystical, and endlessly unpredictable. โDora Lee (Gravity)โ is a perfect encapsulation of their wild, smart spirit, spiritually soaked in blues. Itโs a loud, hallucinogenic stomp through myth, music, and madness, and it leaves you wanting more from the Gravity Sessions, out soon.
