Dreaming by SPiN: Review
The latest single by SPiN is a nostalgic throwback to the songwriting patterns of the hippie era of the 60s and 70s. Vintage yet modern, they put their own touch of indie that is so familiar, yet refreshing.
The song follows the classic songwriting and lyrical ethos of the 60s and 70s. The crackling sound and the clean vintage guitar tone in the verse evoke nostalgia for a time that many of us never lived. It is through this kind of music we go back to these times and live those years in our minds. This ties beautifully with the lyrical theme of the song which revolves around dreams and realityโ daydreaming to escape reality and believing in your dreams to make them a reality. Inspiring and wholesome concept indeed. To get this message across, on the mic is a powerful dynamic vocal that can inspire, comfort, and agitate. The suave vocals are full of emotion and the changes in expression with the transitions are made ever so smoothly. What stood out to me is the fact that the chorus, as catchy as it is sounds both vintage and modern at the same time. Just playing the chorus, I couldnโt tell if it was really from a song from the 60s remastered or a song from yesteryear. It was only when it got to the final breakdown I was sure it was a modern song.
Overall, this modern throwback to a classic can be a great addition to anyoneโs playlist along with the likes of Amy Winehouse, Stephen Sanchez and Alex Turner. Also, the accompanying music video has a great cinematic vibe too.
