Out of Manresa, near Barcelona, Mental Frank crafts electronic music the way he builds his DJ sets, slow-burning, patient, and attuned to flow. โEdge Of Doubtโ emerges from a period of transition, written and produced entirely in his private studio during late-night solitary sessions. Following the end of a long relationship and the shift into living alone, the track moves the way uncertainty feelsโforward, but without a map.
Mental Frankโs background as a DJ seeps into every layer. His understanding of tension, space, and long-form progression shapes the trackโs architecture. Rather than stacking dramatic drops or obvious climaxes, he leans into continuity. Limiting his sound palette, he allows subtle modulation, texture shifts, and micro-variations to do the heavy lifting. Itโs less about spectacle and more about immersion.
The first minute and a half unfold in a calm, enveloping haze. Ambient tones stretch outward, creating a spacious, almost meditative soundscape. Then, almost imperceptibly at first, hard-hitting beats begin to pound through the mist, locking into a slow, hypnotic groove. The percussion shakes and jitters around the edges, adding nervous energy beneath the steady pulse.
Just when the rhythm feels settled, it pulls back. A low buzz lingers, simmering, before giving way to a more dance-driven percussive pattern. Rumbles of bass and restless drums build momentum, while shaky percussion jitters like doubt itselfโnever fully disappearing. Later, cymbals splash into the mix, widening the space and lifting the energy without breaking the spell.
โEdge Of Doubtโ is about evolution. It feels designed for extended DJ sets and dimly lit rooms where time stretches and blends. Subtle yet insistent, introspective yet physical, the track mirrors the struggle of moving on. Check it out on YouTube.
