Empty by DAMIEN: Review

Synthwave with a distinct punk aesthetic meet in DAMIEN’s mysterious tune “Empty.” A moody singer takes the mic for a dark melodic outfit, followed by weighty basslines and an electrifying beat pattern. Altogether, this powerful ode feels like DAMIEN’s eminent moment in the spotlight.
“Empty” is a song with a gripping persona. Particularly, the vocal aspects. It initiates with a subtle whisper and elevates to a strong cadence. In my opinion, the song’s influence is tied to punk music with a rigid digital backbone. EDM has branched out with a diverse approach. Just because of its multifaceted presence, a plethora of genres syncs incredibly well with its sound. Similarly, contemporary pop artists making waves at the apex of the music biz are clinging to the dominant sound of the electro-bass. None can deny the melodic weight of the instrument such as in DAMIEN’s groovy danceable tune. Aside from that, the vocal production and harmonic elements of the song’s chorus contributed to a spooky dynamic at play. Due to this, the richness of the track is kept intact.
Since DAMIEN’s musical aura affirms with darkwave, the genre’s existence seems to be surging as of late. It’s quite appealing that budding musicians such as DAMIEN are approaching a unique genre’s scale. Especially when the vocal attributes and instrumental synergy are at play, the song’s boldness pulls through. All in all, if you’re new to darkwave, how about giving “Empty” a shot?
