1. Your roots can often shape your journey. Can you share a story or moment from your early life that had a significant impact on your path into music?
Kris Kolls: Itโs hard to remember myself as a little kid, but probably the most vivid memory of my love for music was listening to Britney Spearsโ CDs. Choosing music as my path felt absolutely natural โ even when my grandmother sang lullabies to me, instead of falling asleep, I would sing with her, louder and longer! :) It seems like everything in my world was leading me toward music. I believe my story isnโt about a choice โ itโs fate and a calling.
2. Did your musical journey begin with formal training, or was it more of a personal exploration? How has that shaped your unique approach to your craft?
Kris Kolls: In this case, itโs easier to point to the period when I started writing songs myself. It all began with the music in my head: just like everyone else, I have thousands of thoughts flying at lightning speed โ but they also sing. It felt like a whole choir inside, demanding attention. That became the starting point for me to study music software, searching for ways to bring the orchestra in my head into the real world.
3. Who were some of the most influential figures in your early musical life, and how did they inspire your sound? Also, whatโs the story behind choosing the name โKris Kollsโ?
Kris Kolls: This is a very difficult question because Iโve never had absolute favorites. More often, I fell in love with harmonies,timbres, and certain parts of songs, especially inspired by beats and percussion. If I think back to childhood, my first and most obvious love was Britney Spears. I knew every single song from the Oopsโฆ I Did It Again album by heart, along with the choreography I learned from DVDs. Later, I was inspired by Justin Timberlake, Christina Aguilera, and many others. As an adult, I definitely found emotional resonance in Ariana Grandeโs music. Honestly, I canโt single out just one artist โ my heart is filled with countless musical loves. Choosing my stage name wasnโt a struggle โ itโs almost identical to my real name, just a shortened version. I chose it about eight years ago and have received a lot of positive feedback ever since. Most importantly โ I love it myself!
4. What do you believe sets your music apart? How would you describe your sound to someone discovering you for the first time, and what emotions or experiences do you hope to evoke in your listeners?
Kris Kolls: My music is an internal monologue โ a constant flow of thoughts that we direct, turn over, and experience. I use my voice in a way that creates a feeling of neurons firing, thoughts racing, multiple voices singing simultaneously โ from above, from below, some whispering in between. Itโs about the freedom of thinking and the joy of experiencing it. I want people to stop overthinking and allow their thoughts to dance and live freely.

5. For most artists, originality is first preceded by a phase of learning and, often, emulating others. What was this like for you? How would you describe your own development as an artist and music maker, and the transition towards your own style, which is known as POP?
Kris Kolls: When creating music, sometimes favorite fragments or features from other artists naturally surface.
But my creative process has no rigid structure: thereโs only one rule โ sit down and start writing. Everything else is pure improvisation. I donโt force myself with deadlines or pre-made outlines. Sometimes a melody emerges for a written text, other times it starts from a bassline. Every time is different. Experimentation helps me grow as an artist, but my ear is always drawn to melody โ which is why pop naturally becomes the foundation of my sound.
6. Music often transcends entertainment. Whatโs your view on the role and function of music as political, cultural, spiritual, and/or social vehicles โ and do you try and affront any of these themes in your work, or are you purely interested in music as an expression of technical artistry, personal narrative, and entertainment?
Kris Kolls: Music, to me, is a world where you can escape, independent of lifeโs circumstances. It helps you find strength in any area โ whether politics, philosophy, spirituality, or culture. I hope that when people listen to my music, they feel less alone, find emotional release, and experience resonance. I want my songs to become both a question and an answer at the same time. I hope that when someone wakes up in the morning and listens to my song, theyโll feel inspired to make a bold decision, or that the melody will lift their mood to the sky, making their day the happiest and most successful! I want people to stop being afraid to act and live their lives to the fullest.
7. Do you feel the rewards of your musical career match the energy and passion you invest in it, or are there different kinds of fulfillment youโre still seeking?
Kris Kolls: Of course, every artist seeking to grow dreams of recognition. Iโm no exception โ I want awards too, who wouldnโt? :) But we all know many incredibly talented global stars who have never received awards. Will I strive for them? Absolutely. But itโs not my ultimate goal. What matters most is to live as long as possible while creating music and sharing it with the world โ thatโs my real dream.
8. Can you walk us through your creative process? From the first spark of an idea to the finished track, whatโs the most essential part of your process, and how do collaboration or external influences shape your work?
Kris Kolls: Everything starts with an idea โ I simply write it down as a stream of text, no rhymes, no structure. The most important thing is to do it in silence, without external distractions. Then I turn it into a rhymed picture, sometimes keeping unrhymed words if they carry deep meaning. After that, the studio process begins: sometimes I start with harmonies, sometimes with the beat โ it all depends on the emotion behind the lyrics. A sad text doesnโt always require a sad melody โ sometimes an upbeat sound enhances the message even more. I quickly compose music on the piano, but when it comes to vocals, itโs a whole different relationship: I can re-record the same piece 30 times until I hear the perfect emotional nuance. Immersing myself fully in the process is pure bliss.
9. Whatโs been the most challenging hurdle in either your personal life or music career, and how has it shaped you as an artist?
Kris Kolls: Iโve faced two major challenges in my life:
โ losing my father;
โ accomplishing a goal that once seemed impossible.
Both experiences taught me:
โ life is short, and itโs not worth wasting on nonsense or people who underestimate you;
โ there are no impossible goals โ only excuses.
After these events, I stopped being afraid and allowed myself to breathe.
Music became my true source of vitality.
10. On the flip side, what moment or achievement in your career so far has made you feel the proudest, and why? And letโs talk about your latest release and future plans.
Kris Kolls: My biggest victory so far is starting and developing myself as an artist. In 2024, I released my first single &Again, and everything started from there. People wrote the most honest, kind, and inspiring feedback. On April 25, 2025, I released HORIZON โ a song about infinite love for life, freedom, and inner strength. Itโs about peace, about a world without manipulation, about choosing and embracing yourself and others, about the invisible space between people, and about the power of will and intuition โ the greatest gifts each of us carries inside.
11. With social media having a heavy impact on our lives and the music business in general, how do you handle criticism, haters, and/or naysayers in general? Is it something you pay attention to, or simply ignore?
Kris Kolls: I take criticism calmly. Not everyone loves apples โ some people are allergic to them. :) My work process is so immersive that it almost completely disconnects me from negativity. Iโm grateful to everyone โ those who love my music and those who donโt. Weโre all beautiful in this world, and thatโs what makes it so fascinating.
12. Creative work in a studio or home environment, or interaction with a live audience? Which of these two options excites you most, and why?
Kris Kolls: Both the studio and the stage inspire me equally. On stage, thereโs a greater sense of responsibility โ you are the final product. In the studio, Iโm a free bird, creating in pure flow.
13. Do you think is it important for fans of your music to understand the real story and message driving each of your songs, or do you think everyone should be free to interpret your songs in their own personal way?
Kris Kolls: Iโm not sure everyone wants to dive into the personal details of my experiences โ life is complex enough already. What matters more is that everyone finds something of their own in my music. That would be the greatest reward for me.
