Delta Fire is a four-piece alt-rock outfit from Glasgow, Kieron McManus (vocals/lead guitar), Liam McLaughlin (vocals/rhythm guitar), Aidan Spencer (bass), and Andrew Knox-Watson (drums), and โEyes Burn Goldโ is their thunderous second single, recorded at the legendary Chem19. Drawing from widescreen post-rock and 60s psych (think Caspianโs airiness colliding with Cream/Jefferson Airplane flourish), the band wanted a track that could sit beside anthemic psychedelia or the soundtrack to a fantasy epic, and, not gonna lie, they nailed that vibe.
Right out of the gate, warm strummed guitars unfurl while a moody electric bends like a weathered flag in the wind. Meanwhile, the beats at first move slowly and spaciously, letting the atmosphere thicken. Then Liamโs signature rasp steps forward, he tells the story in gravel and velvet, unraveling lines with a husky intimacy that hooks you quick. As the arrangement tightens, drums shift into a galloping pulse, and the chorus pushes his voice up into a more vehement beltโthe dynamic sweep that gives the track real cinematic heft.
Meanwhile, the rhythm section is no walk-on, as Aidanโs bass is massive, gravity-pulling the whole mix so your trousers rumble, and Andrewโs drums drive with purposeful force. The fuzzy, gritty guitar textures buzz like neon and Tomโor rather Kieronโsprays tasteful lead flourishes that thread melody through the noise. On the other hand, Chem19โs big live rooms and vintage analogue gear shine here. Derek OโNeilโs engineering captures the bandโs raw live punch while keeping clarity intact.
Bottom line: โEyes Burn Goldโ is a stormy, spacious burner that shows Delta Fireโs range and appetite for drama. Itโs built for sweaty venues and late-night headphone epiphanies alikeโturn it up, sing along when the chorus hits, and catch them live to feel the full blast. This oneโs a teaser for the album to come; watch this space.
