After their debut, HATS TM’s latest single, “fear the mourning,” released on July 8. This is unlike anything you have ever heard before. The rising artist is here to sensationalize your senses with an evocative shower of compassion.
“fear the mourning” opens with a striking acapella introduction, showcasing HATS TM’s thick, rich voice. They hauntingly mumble and are driven underneath another current of their vocals. The overcoming layer of their unadorned vocals slowly build in intensity as they sing, “How about some compassion? Is it so hard?” The soaring and twirling higher notes are delivered with exhilarating soulfulness, immediately drawing listeners into the song’s emotional core.
As the acapella introduction fades, strings begin to wail alongside strumming steely guitars, creating a dramatic, urgent and evocative soundscape. The strings swell to a sonorous peak, only to be replaced by organic, exotic tapping and thumping percussion. The trippy rhythm is infectious, compelling listeners to nod along with the beat in a grounding and hypnotic spell. It’s like the very heart of the song is starting to beat.
The instrumentation builds in layers, culminating in a folksy, swirling crescendo. The instrumentals intertwine in a beautiful, swirling dance, mirroring the internal struggle of confronting grief. They produce a rich wall of sound that beleaguers HATS TM’s vocals, which echo and vocalize with an intense, howling passion. Their vibrato aches with swelling emotion, adding depth and resonance to the performance. This is just utterly breathtaking. Expect goosebumps.
The whole production of “fear the mourning” is just ethereal while also rooted and earthly, as if emanating the incense of all the elements of earth in one song. Check out HATS TM on Spotify.
