Alpha Neutralโs latest single, โFlow down the River,โ is fluid, vibrant, and brimming with motion. The South West London trio has never been easy to pin down genre-wise, and this release just drives that point home even more. Fusing reggaeโs rhythmic bounce with soulful pop hooks, the track flows with an ease that belies the grit behind it.
The band, Matt Barry, Jeb Holroyd, and Annabelle Hawker, drew directly from their real-life trials for this one: divorce, eviction, homelessness, single parenthood, and all the curveballs that come with trying to keep a dream alive in Londonโs relentless grind.
The reggae rhythm pulses with warmth, layered with sparkly, jittery percussion that feels like a heartbeat refusing to slow down. And then thereโs Annabelleโs deep, rich, and textured voice, like aged wood, that tells stories with both bite and beauty. Her delivery comes like sheโs letting you in on a secret while inviting you to dance through the pain.
The trioโs chemistry is undeniable, sharpened by years of collaboration in studios and sheds alike. From Mattโs time engineering at RAK Studios to Jebโs days with Hot Cuisine and Maroon Town, and Annabelleโs years as a session vocalist, they bring a seasoned touch to every beat. Their past tracks like โToo Poshโ and โWhy Do You Hurt Meโ already hinted at their range, but โFlow down the Riverโ feels like a new level.
With their second album Elements on the horizon, this single feels like a teaser of even richer things to come. Stay tuned and check out โFlow down the Riverโ on Spotify.
