FOR “DAS HERZ EINES DRACHEN,” FEUERSCHWANZ SHARE A VERY PERSONAL VIDEO.
Feuerschwanz have released an official video for “Das Herz eines Drachen” [en: The Heart of a Dragon], their most intimate song to date, following their big German chart debut at #1 with their new studio album Memento Mori at the start of 2022. With its obvious seriousness, the medieval folk rockers’ tune reveals a hitherto hidden side of the band. Captain Feuerschwanz mourns his slain father with his head held high over a fire ignited by burning guitar sounds and flute tunes. A song that provides optimism in dark times and reiterates the Memento Mori credo from the last studio album.
“‘Das Herz eines Drachen’ is a very personal song for me,” says Hauptmann Feuerschwanz of “Das Herz eines Drachen.” Finding words and sounds for sentiments for which there are no words is nearly impossible, but with the support of my Feuerschwanz buddies, I was able to overcome this obstacle. What if the world feels so dangerous that the nervous system shuts down? Perhaps it’s no surprise that my second career as a psychologist focuses on the consequences of trauma on our nerve systems. ‘Das Herz eines Drachen’ is a song that is meant to provide healing and reconciliation for all of the things that have damaged us since we were children. My Dragonheart has given me a new sense of true strength and connection to my family and the rest of the planet.”
Memento Mori continues the success tale of the German / Franconian medieval rockers! Feuerschwanz take a step away from the simpler comedy of earlier albums with their new album, establishing themselves as one of the most influential bands in German folk rock.
Memento Mori begins its heroic adventure with its namesake introduction, which features chanting violin playing. The song is a melodious rock anthem with a well-known medieval persona, a scorching guitar riff, and inspirational lyrics. On “Untot im Drachenboot,” Captain Feuerschwanz’s crew sets sail aboard a Viking ship full of undead warriors for new musical shores. “Rausch der Barberei,” on the other hand, has a ferocious, raw vocal and relentless drumming that sends listeners into an uncontrollable frenzy. On “Krampus,” Feuerschwanz sing about the ancient tradition of St. Nicholas’ demonic companion, who is clad in fur and wears a horned mask, in a canon of vocals and instruments. The medieval folk rockers exhibit their pragmatic side on the ballad “Das Herz eines Drachen” (The Heart of a Dragon). A warrior mourns his deceased father with his head held high over a fire lighted by burning guitar sounds and flute tunes. In contrast, army commander Hannibal leads a fierce battle featuring powerful choirs, swirling violin and guitar solos, and thundering drumming in “Hannibal.” “Skaldenmet,” with its triumphantly advancing bass, provides the nearly 40-minute adventure’s grand finish.
Memento Mori is about tremendous adventures, past wars, and exceptional heroic exploits, in typical Feuerschwanz fashion. Feuerschwanz manage to keep true to their hallmarks while also branching out into new musical territory. Memento Moriby fans may look forward to an expanded deluxe edition of the album, which nearly doubles the record’s running time! The cover CD Die Glorreichen Sieben (The Magnificent Seven) comprises seven epic reissues from Amon Amarth to Dierzte and The Weeknd.
“You take nothing with you to your grave except your coffin,” Feuerschwanz says of the new record. Die Letzte Schlacht’s immediate successor is Memento Mori! Hauptmann Feuerschwanz’s world is on fire, overtaken by the undead and scourged by religious fanatics… Even in Anno Domini 2021, all of this sounds terrifyingly real, therefore it’s time to rise above the storm and celebrate life once more. Let us live here and now, until death sharpens his blade!”
Some editions of Memento Mori come with an extra CD that includes seven cover songs by Manowar, Amon Amarth, and O-Zone, among others.
