Fractals by Michael Donoghue: Review
If youโre anything like me, you love everything between white noise, ASMR, and deep trance music for a tranquil space. โFractalsโ by Jersey-based EDM musician Michael Donoghue plays as ambient electro with softer waves, techno, and downtempo. Earlier known as Cosmosapien, Donoghue started putting out music in 2017, and then finally decided to step away and be the real him in 2020. And ever since, he hasnโt stopped releasing music that has made it into countless radio stations including the BBC.
From the self-titled album Fractals, which is filled with five IDM and electronic compositions, each distinguished in its own tempo, sound, and theme, the 9 minute and 54 second Fractals is a contemporary creation. It features a floaty melody that rises into a whirlwind of tunes that gradually become polished and eccentric simultaneously. While the song opens with a monotone and repeated rhythm, it rapidly blooms into something far more intricate. Donoghue plays with our minds and creates an illusion. He plays a repeating tune which is a disguise of the true vision he has set for the entire track. Crafting something ethereal and complex that makes you experience an out-of-body phenomenon. I enjoy the album as a whole, but the longest track, Fractals, stands on its own as an immersive experience that can fill an entire room while the rest of the world sleeps and not a single cricket would chirp.
