Multimedia artist/multi-instrumentalist/creative JSDavani unloads trauma diversified through his concept album, “FTCHRS.” This concept album is the visualization of the artist. He pictures a chemically imbalanced individual dealing with mental health struggles, addiction, loss, and more through the abstract sounds he presents.
The album commences with “LSTDVNTR/spontaneous living thru combustion.” This song has us immersed in glitching lines, swirling synths, and eerie, distorted-pitched voices. The unconventional soundscapes touch into the character’s complex emotional landscape.
The fifth track, “1ST SIGH/n’s of depression,” shimmers with clinking beats, splashing cymbals, electronic nuances, and distorted deep voices that mirror some sort of turbulence and haze. Cinematic music flows to resonate with the emotional struggles.
As the album progresses, each track unfolds like a chapter in a deeply personal narrative. The eleventh and final track, “LIFE/precious and cheap,” stands out with its ambient subliminality. Its soothing music accompanied by waves of faint background sounds and distant sounds of rustling create an ethereal yet realistic and meditative ambiance. You feel as though you are transported somewhere quiet and quaint.
Beyond the auditory experience, “FTCHRS” is a profoundly personal project inspired by the loss of the artist’s best friend. JSDavani incorporates the losses and tragedies of mutuals helping us cope and experience collective emotion and mental health.
So listen to “FTCHRS” and also check out its 30-minute film collage of his friend’s video recordings. There is a bonus multimedia experience looped uniquely for each track on Spotify.
