Detroit-based alt/metal trio Riding With Killers is back to avenge with the relentless onslaught of alt-metal goodness on their latest album, Full Circle. Released on December 9th, 2023, this album showcases the trio at the top of their game with the best of 90s alt-rock, industrial, and nu-metal.
Full Circle revs distortedly and steadily beats with the lead, “Do This On My Own.” The vocalist Taylor Roberts’ voice comes muffled and reverbed, with a headiness that evokes stifled suffocation. Inspired by Roberts’ real-life adventures on a Bahamian island, the song is a testament to self-reliance and the power of determination.
As the album progresses, “Hostility” brings a buzz of blaze, as Roberts’ raspy high voice sends chills with icy energy. Paul McCoy of 12 Stones makes a guest appearance on the hooky earworm, “World Apart,” bringing his signature energy and powerful vocals to the booming mix.
One standout track is “DNA,” a full-throttle burst of energy and frustration that hits like a punch to the gut. The chaotic vocals cut through the gouging distortion with intensity. Another highlight is the melodic and lonesome appeal of “In Silence,” featuring guest vocals from Jennie Nord of Rave The Reqviem. With her soulful, assertive and feminine presence, she balances Taylor Roberts’ evocative vocals.
Closing out Full Circle is “Self Destruct” building tension eerily before exploding into a cacophony of grazing guitars. It drives into an immersive opening of Roberts, who leads an echoing and numbing acid trip to self-destruction with his voice.
