The self-titled debut album, Fury of a Dying Planet, is a powerful, prog-metal album that explores environmental destruction and mankind’s reckless disregard for nature. Written, performed, and produced by multi-instrumentalist Doug Rimington, with Paul Brigstock delivering striking vocals, the album captures the fury and urgency of a world in peril.
Fury of a Dying Planet opens with “Oceans,” an explosive track that bursts with fierce guitar riffs and thunderous drums. Brigstock’s vocals alternate between soaring highs, primal growls, and soft introspective moments during the ambient bridge. A standout track, “Bloodied Fjords,” builds tension with gritty, shredding guitars that surge throughout, creating a dramatic and intense atmosphere. Brigstock’s raspy, electrifying vocals match the aggression of the instrumentals.
With an ominous warmth in the opening, “Repetition to Extinction” builds into a ferocious anthem that carries the weight of moral and environmental crises. Grinding riffs and atmospheric vocals paint a bleak picture of a world ignored by those in power. The lyrics criticize politicians for their disregard for the vulnerable, urging the listener to recognize the harm being done to both people and the planet.
The final track, “Heroes of the Earth,” begins with a tribute with the soulful acapella line, “These brave souls stand in harm’s way/fighting for the earth/fighting for this place/that we call home.” The guitars and drums build into a relentless, defiant march, expressing solidarity with environmental activists who face danger to preserve what remains of nature. Rimington’s churning instrumentals create an urgency that makes the listener feel like they are in the midst of a fierce battle for the planet’s survival.
