Golem Dance Cult, a music project born from long-time friends Charles Why and Laur, is all about groovy rock music revving and gearing into the unknown. Their latest track, “Ghost of Las Vegas”, exemplifies their approach but is rearranged to fit the Halloween theme. Imagine being pushed into a Hammer horror film, then reimagine it through the folds of music.
The song enters with a thumping drum jam that lures you into its dark and enigmatic world. As the music unfolds, a haunting and intimidating voice takes centre stage. It’s thick, rich, and full of foreboding, setting a soulful and brooding tone for the track. A higher voice joins in, contrasting eerily and layering with a greater level of intrigue and engagement. The arrival of gritty, gnarling guitars only amplifies the sense of creeping dread, while the relentless drumbeat keeps everything grounded.
Listening to “Ghost of Las Vegas” feels like you are travelling to the surreal through dark roads in the night lined with ghastly dark and large trees. This is not your typical rock song. It’s an adventure through a nightmarish landscape.
What’s truly fascinating about Golem Dance Cult is their dedication to preserving intention over perfection. This approach allows them to capture a vibe that transcends the typical boundaries of music genres. “Ghost of Las Vegas” is a compelling preview of what’s to come from the band.
