Dharmika calls for unity and solidarity in her latest folk anthem, “Give Me Shelter from the Storm.”
Recorded at C. Todd Robbins’ studio in Eugene, Oregon, Dharmika portrays the chaos unleashed by those in power, leaving ordinary people to fend for themselves amid the storm.
Todd’s masterful production skills shine through as he effortlessly weaves together harmonica, acoustic guitar, and piano to create a sound that’s both timeless and timely. From the moment the harmonica kicks in, you know you’re in for something special. Dharmika’s voice dances effortlessly along with the jolly tunes, luring you into a context much darker than the tune. And when the chorus hits, backed by the strumming of acoustic guitars, her thick vocals get assertive while tender, driving home the song’s message with desperation.
Dharmika fearlessly tackles the harsh realities of life under extremist rule, especially in the US, shining a spotlight on the perpetrators “tearing up foundations,” with the innocent victims caught in the crossfire. She sings, giving voice to the victims of mass destruction: “Let me know I am not alone, not alone.” There’s a desolate hope in the victim’s voice as she pleads with the world to stand by their side.
So, if you’re looking for a song that’s equal parts poignant and powerful, look no further than Dharmika’s “Give Me Shelter from the Storm.” The folk singer-songwriter gets her drive to sing for the downtrodden from Martin Kerr, who also sings for social causes. Stay tuned to hear more poignant pieces!
