Goodbye Wilfred by Jack Quit the Band: Review
Norwegian country jazz punk rock band Jack Quit the Band announced their arrival in the scene with their debut single “Goodbye Wilfred”. The band used to have four members, but the guitarist, Jack, quit the band at the last moment, hence, the trio named their band Jack Quit the Band. Hilarious! The song is about their bassist, who once rented a place from an unusual young cat lady. Wilfred, one of her three cats, did whatever he wanted, ate where he wanted, pooped wherever he wanted, and slept wherever he wanted. He did everything to his liking. The house got too much for their bassist, so he moved out. Goodbye, Wilfred pays tribute to the feline troublemaker.
The track starts with the drums in full blast and abruptly stopped to give the tempo counts with the drumsticks. This has to be the best drums intro I’ve heard this year so far! The pop punk-styled vocals start singing at the same time as the other instruments, and the groovy bass line with the overdriven electric guitar plays a kickass solo. I must say, these guys know how to kick off things! After a while, everything calms down, and only the rhythm guitar starts to play. The jazzy fillers and solos were impressive with math-rock vibes. The band shows off their impressive technicality and the song comes in full throttle again!
Overall, it was a very energetic and well-composed full-of-life track with a great mixture of genres, which they blended very nicely. A punk rock band with a jazzy and country feel is something to create some hype. You don’t have to take my word, check out the song yourself.
