Detroit-based project Valaura comes swinging with โHallowed Ground,โ a single that feels like a line drawn in the sand and dared to be crossed. Released on January 31, 2026, the track signals a bolder, heavier turn for the group, blending groove-heavy alt rock with confrontational fire. Built by Valaura alongside a tight-knit lineup, Abi Tipton on vocals and keys, Nick Grucz on guitar, Mike Paraski on bass, and Noah Barnes on drums, the song pulls from a wide sonic palette, nodding to the funked-up swagger of Red Hot Chili Peppers and Incubus while tapping into the dramatic punch of Evanescence, Paramore, and Wolf Alice. It comes off familiar yet freshly sharpened, like an old blade reforged.
โHallowed Groundโ opens with guitar riffs that hook instantly, melodic but gritty, riding atop restless drums where cymbals splash and rustle with purpose. Thereโs a bluesy undercurrent in the verses, all groove and tension, before the track lifts its head and bares its teeth. Abi Tiptonโs voice is the undeniable centerpiece, high, sharp, and strikingly soft at first, then soaring wide open in the chorus. When it hits, the song melts into something lush and molten, her vocals stretching over thumping beats and grinding guitars coming off cathartic and confrontational.
Lyrically, the track is a flat-out rejection of moral hypocrisy and forced salvation, taking aim at the so-called โbig, bad wolvesโ who prey on peace under the guise of knowing better. While the song carries a strong feminine perspective, its message lands universallyโthis is about autonomy, boundaries, and refusing to compromise your inner calm. Itโs no surprise Valaura plans to take this energy straight to the stage, with shows lined up at the Blind Pig in Ann Arbor on February 19th and March 11th.
โHallowed Groundโ claims space, plants its flag. So itโs your turn to mark the calendars and stay tuned.
