If you loved Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen, you will love the single Have Fun (Remastered 2023) by Ninni. Not because it exactly sounds like the prior track, but because the artist loves it too. When you love something, you donโt just derive its influence, you create something for it. Ninni has alone crafted this unorthodox masterpiece with his performance, arrangement, remixing, and remastering. Does it sound unpolished on any level, despite his efforts as a lone wolf? Absolutely not.
The almost 6-minute long track, out this 14th of April, has no connection to musical guidelines. It follows no specific verse, chorus, bridge, or patternโrather, you hear an unfathomable and enigmatic chanting at the start. The peculiarities have begun. Itโs disco at its best, and, interestingly, funk too. But thereโs much more to it, with its glamorous synths beleaguering the track. The booming bass in combination with the echoing, eclectic vocals drive us to an imagery centered around a sense of impending doom. And doom is what has already happened in Ninniโs cover art.
With โHAVE FUNโ floating over an altitudinous picture of an atomic blast in black and whiteโฆthat surely doesnโt look so fun. But I suppose we already know that by the tone of the song. Itโs a dramatic irony that presents the pain all around us. Itโs a cinematic masterpiece, with the vocals illustrating the melancholic lyrics in a rather rueful tone, merging with the indie genre. If you are prepared to engage yourself in an idiosyncratic realm, listen to Have Fun (Remastered 2023) by Ninni.
