Milan- and London-based producer Richard Green continues to show his genre-spanning versatility with his 2024 single โHolding a Gun,โ released on July 19. Having already experimented with neoclassical and electro-pop projects, Green steps firmly into the electronic underground with this track and puts techno, house, and breakbeat textures into a club-ready soundscape. Inspired by the hard electro Boys Noize, Green channels the grit and pulse of that early scene in his own narrative.
โHolding a Gunโ bursts open with bounding electronic pulses, and buzzes with energy as hard breakbeats fall into place. The immediacy in the rhythm and the sense of motion keep swelling as synths and vivid melodies rush in. They evolve into waves of confrontation and release.
โHolding a Gunโ brings an underlying concept with the โgunโ acting like the finger pointed in judgment. It does so with an ease with which people condemn, while forgetting kindnesses. When the beat drops harder midway through, it almost mirrors the emotional weight of that realization, how quickly empathy collapses into accusation. Perfect for the summer dances, the track makes you move your body while nudging you to reflect on the fragility of human compassion.
By the time the final layers peel back, you are left in the catharsis and unease and reminded of how easily judgment can wound. Listen to the electronic โHolding a Gunโ by Richard Green that touches you in its underlying humanity.
