Released this Feb 2, “I Can’t Do This Anymore” by London-based hyperpop/electronic artist and producer Gary Mictian gets us reeling in our feels. With this release, Mictian unveils his new electronic aesthetic that will show us a part of his artistry we have never seen before.
“I Can’t Do This Anymore” is an open and honest narrative of rejecting romance altogether after getting hurt after multiple trials. The vocals take no time swooning you in with the thick, rich, and luscious texture that passionately slips through the dreamy and ambient background music. The line, “I keep falling in love with the ghost of you/I can’t control myself,” perfectly showcases how it feels to be trapped in a cycle of unrequited affection, unable to break free from the emotional bonds that tether us to the past.
Despite the somber nature of the song’s lyrical content, Mictian’s production infuses “I Can’t Do This Anymore” with a sense of dynamism and energy. The swaying rhythm and head-nodding beats create a hypnotic groove that draws listeners into the sonic landscape of the track. The synth waves ebb and flow with ethereal beauty, bringing texture and depth to the music.
If you are wondering where he gets his sound, just listen to The Weeknd and Charli XCX. But it’s still not so similar, Mictian loves to play with his electronics and he sources his music from all over electronic pop, dystopian sci-fi, and cinematic soundscapes. That’s how we get that chill, atmospheric, yet pulsating production.
“I Can’t Do This Anymore,” is only the first single from Gary Mictian’s upcoming debut EP, Nosedive. Stay tuned for the big release.
