UK duo Starlight Alice is about to shock you with a mix of folk and pop with their debut single, “I Swear to God,” released this February 16.
Good luck trying not to hit the repeat button. You can try but the pause button will be a good miss. The music is ingeniously sound and crazy good. Be it the sensual tempting vocals, the insanely poetic and deep lyricism that hits you right in the feels, or pristine riffs that carry the song like a champ.
“I Swear to God” starts with clear, consistent guitaring and follows with pumping, intense beats and full anthemic background music. But nothing compares to the lusciously rich and thick voice that opens with this poetic line, “Sometimes it rains when there’s no clouds/It even pours inside our house.” The opening lines poignantly express his struggle with his inner demons.
In the chorus, the vocalist sings, “You are locked inside my head/You paint my memories red/But I fight till the very end/I swear to God you are never getting out, ” conveying how he is unable to look ahead despite the disruptions it has caused. As the song culminates, he sings of trying to move on by locking his doors and not letting the damage rebound. I love how the song dynamizes in both structure and lyricism and gives us hope for our narrator!
“I Swear to God” is just the beginning of Starlight Alice. Get ready to add Starlight Alice to your playlist because this duo is here to stay. Keep vigilant for live performances too!
