Oslo’s Tidal Water crashes back onto the rock scene with the chaotic, electrifying anthem “Imperfection” released this June 7.
The song gives pure, unadulterated rebellion with Martin Hovden’s vocals acting like a thick, snarling beast. They spew lyrics that rail against societal conformity and the stifling grip of expectations. The instrumentals gnarl and rage with distortion over which the twangy shrieks and lazy riffs claw at your eardrums, just to bend with infectious energy. The drums pound a relentless rhythm, the foundation for a sonic assault that engulfs you completely. “Imperfection” throws music at you just for them to swirl and beleaguer you in a hypnotic groove. It’s messy, it’s loud, and it’s absolutely exhilarating.
“Imperfection,” lyrically is like a punk rock manifesto, laced with social commentary and a healthy dose of defiance. Hovden throws shade at conformity, perfectionism, and those clinging to outdated traditions. He calls us to celebrate the beauty of offering humane creation and satirizing AI perfection by championing modern tools (“Fuck the rules, I utilize AI tools”). Hovden urges us to “Ditch the script, let the chaos in” and embrace the imperfections that make us unique. “In the rubble, find your happiness,” he shouts, a menacing consequence of those who dare to break free from the mold.
This isn’t a song for the faint of heart. It’s a full-frontal assault on the senses. It’s exactly what you would expect from Tidal Water, given their past vigor for demonstrating their political and societal awareness through their music.
Until their debut album Polarity drops soon enough, listen to the untamed “Imperfection” of Tidal Water.
