In a new video with Willow, Yungblud struggles to let go of the ‘Memories.’ Yungblud’s “The Funeral” and Willow’s collaboration with Camila Cabello, “Psychofreak,” were both released in March.
Nothing says angst like a graffitied subway. Yungblud released the music video for his new single “Memories,” which incorporates Willow’s vocals, on Thursday. The video, created by Colin Tilley, follows the two, who represent one other’s toxic love interests, as they revisit memories of a relationship while singing from the subway.
In the chorus, Yungblud sings, “I wish I could let go of all the memories.” “However, they’re still lodged in my mind.”
In an interview with Spin, Yungblud discussed the lyrics of the new song, revealing that they were inspired by his terrible, abuse-filled childhood.
“‘Every time I fall asleep, I know I’ll wake up alone,’ says the lyric. I’m alone when I wake up.’ It’s not about falling in love. ‘You were wrapped around my throat in my dreams. I’m afraid I’m going to pass out.’ He told the magazine, “It sounds like it’s about love, but it’s not.” “As a kid, I used to spend a lot of time in my imagination to get out of fucking bullshit. At 15, I was strangely playing with [toy] soldiers.”
For several days, the pair has been teasing the new song. Yungblud posted a video of Willow smoking a cigarette for him last week. “Somethins comin may 6th…” he said in the caption. “Are you prepared?”
Willow appears in the new visual, which comes nearly two months after Yungblud released the music video for “The Funeral,” which featured cameos from Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne. The songs follow “Fleabag” and his upcoming album Weird!
Willow previously collaborated with Camila Cabello on “Psychofreak” and with Siiickbrain on “Purge.”
